From Jenny: Lunar New Year '26 Drop

As a Chinese founder, I’m always looking for thoughtful ways to weave my culture into our work at Freja. Lunar New Year felt like the perfect moment to create an intentional piece that honors tradition while living naturally in our modern world.

Brielle and I spent months discussing what that item could be. We’re excited to share our new Slim Clutch, crafted in a glossy eel finish and housed in a beautiful suede box finished with a traditional Chinese knot closure.

The inspiration behind this piece comes from the phrase 年年有余 — a Lunar New Year blessing that speaks to abundance carried forward, year after year. The word 余 (surplus) is a homophone for 鱼 (fish), which is why whole fish are traditionally served at New Year’s tables as a symbol of prosperity and continuity. Our eel finish is a quiet nod to that tradition, a modern expression of an old wish: to always end the year with something left after all needs are met.

This Lunar New Year also welcomes the Year of the Horse, a sign associated with movement and independence, values that have always guided Freja. This year is extra special personally as I finally have the opportunity to celebrate the new year with my family in China for the first time since college.

This piece is our way of sharing these blessings with our community, and an intentional way of quietly carrying that reminder with you day after day.
